Privacy Policy

Draft for legal review — Effective Date: July 22, 2026

1. Introduction

TapTrade ("TapTrade," "we," "us," or "our") operates the TapTrade website at https://taptrade.site and related mobile applications (together, the "Service").

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect personal information when you use the Service. It applies to the website, mobile apps, and related online features we operate.

If you do not agree with this Policy, please do not use the Service. Questions: privacy@taptrade.site.

2. Who We Are

Controller: TapTrade
Website: https://taptrade.site
Contact: privacy@taptrade.site

Postal address and formal company registration details will be provided upon request and updated in this Policy when finalized.

3. Scope

This Policy covers personal information we process in connection with the Service, including account registration, profile verification, map-based listings (items, events, and wishes), in-app chat, location features, analytics (where consented), and customer support.

It does not cover third-party websites, apps, or services that we link to or that you use to interact with other users outside TapTrade.

4. Information We Collect

4.1 Information you provide

  • Account and profile data: name, display name, email address, profile photo, gender, preferred currency, and similar profile settings.
  • Date of birth: collected during account verification solely to confirm you are at least 18 and eligible to use the Service. We do not use date of birth for marketing profiling or targeted advertising.
  • Home / address information: street address components and coordinates used for verification and to enable location-based posting and discovery.
  • Phone number (optional): stored by us if you choose to add it. If you provide a number, you must consent to share it with people you chat with so they can call you using their device dialer. TapTrade does not send SMS or place calls on your behalf. Phone numbers are not shown on public map listings, search results, or public profile pages. You may remove your number in profile settings.
  • User-generated content: listing titles and descriptions, photos, event details, wishes, chat messages, reports, bug reports, and other content you submit.
  • Communications: messages you send to us for support or feedback.
  • Consent and preference records: cookie/analytics preferences, legal agreement acknowledgements, phone-sharing consent, email engagement preferences, and similar choices.

4.2 Information from authentication providers

We use Clerk for authentication. When you sign in with a supported identity provider (for example, Google), we may receive identifiers and profile information authorized by you and that provider (such as name, email, and profile image).

4.3 Location information

  • Device location: with your permission (OS-level prompt), we collect precise location while you use map features so we can show your position, nearby content, and related functionality. You can revoke location permission in your device settings. Core browsing of public map content may still work with reduced functionality.
  • Listing and saved locations: when you create listings or save posting locations, we store the coordinates and address details you choose. Public map pins may be shown in the vicinity of exact coordinates based on your privacy settings.

We do not intend to collect continuous background location when the app is not in use. If that changes, we will update this Policy and request any required permissions and consents.

4.4 Information collected automatically

  • Technical and usage data: IP address, device/browser type, operating system, approximate network location, pages/screens viewed, feature usage (including map search terms when you search), referral source, timestamps, and diagnostic logs.
  • Cookies and similar technologies: essential cookies for authentication and security; preference cookies; and analytics cookies/SDKs only where you have consented (see Section 8).
  • Chat presence (if enabled): online/last-seen style signals derived from activity, subject to your privacy toggle where available.

4.5 Information from other users

Other users may provide information about you when they message you, report content or conduct, or reference you in listings or communications.

5. How We Use Information

We use personal information to:

  • Create and manage accounts, verify eligibility (including age 18+), and authenticate users
  • Operate the map, listings, search, wishes, events, chat, referrals, and related features
  • Display content you choose to make public and facilitate communication between users
  • Send service messages (security, account, policy, and transactional notices)
  • Provide support and respond to inquiries
  • Maintain safety and security, detect fraud/abuse, enforce our Terms, and handle reports
  • Comply with law and protect rights, safety, and property
  • Analyze and improve the Service (product analytics is consent-gated where required)
  • Personalize non-advertising experience features (for example, local relevance)

We do not sell your personal information for money. We do not use your date of birth for marketing profiling or targeted advertising.

6. Legal Bases (EEA/UK/Israel and similar laws)

Where required, we rely on one or more of the following bases:

  • Contract: to provide the Service you request (account, listings, chat, map features).
  • Consent: precise device location, optional analytics cookies/SDKs, optional phone sharing with chat partners, and certain marketing/engagement emails where applicable. You may withdraw consent at any time (without affecting prior lawful processing).
  • Legitimate interests: securing the Service, preventing abuse, improving reliability, and understanding aggregated usage—balanced against your rights.
  • Legal obligation: where we must retain or disclose information to comply with law.

7. How We Share Information

We share personal information only as described below:

  • Other users: profile name/photo, public listing and event content, approximate or selected map locations, chat messages you send, and (if you consented) your phone number with chat counterparts.
  • Service providers (processors): vendors that help us operate the Service, such as authentication (Clerk), backend/database hosting (Convex), maps and geocoding (Mapbox), product analytics (PostHog, when consented), hosting/CDN, and email delivery. They may process data only on our instructions and under appropriate agreements.
  • Legal and safety: if required by law, legal process, or to protect users, the public, or TapTrade.
  • Business transfers: in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of assets, subject to appropriate notice where required.
  • Aggregated / de-identified data: that cannot reasonably identify you.

California residents: we do not “sell” personal information for money. Certain analytics or advertising technologies can be considered “sharing” or a “sale” under the CCPA/CPRA. Where that applies, you may opt out via our cookie/consent controls and by contacting privacy@taptrade.site. We will not discriminate against you for exercising privacy rights.

8. Cookies and Similar Technologies

We use:

  • Essential: authentication, security, load balancing, and remembering critical preferences.
  • Preferences: language, UI, and similar settings.
  • Analytics: PostHog and similar tools, loaded only after you accept analytics in our consent banner/preferences (where shown).

You can manage consent through our on-site preferences and through your browser or device settings. Blocking essential cookies may prevent sign-in or core features from working.

9. Data Retention

We retain personal information only as long as needed for the purposes described in this Policy, including to operate the Service, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, and meet legal obligations.

  • Active accounts: retained while your account remains open.
  • Account deletion: when you delete your account in profile settings, we delete or de-identify associated personal data from our primary systems in accordance with our deletion processes, except limited records we must keep (for example, fraud prevention, legal claims, or a minimal audit record that an account was deleted).
  • Backups: residual copies may persist in encrypted backups for a limited period and are deleted or overwritten in the ordinary backup lifecycle.
  • Content you shared: messages you sent to others or public content may remain visible to recipients or in copies they retain outside our control.

10. Security

We implement administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect personal information (including access controls, encryption in transit where appropriate, and vendor controls). No method of transmission or storage is completely secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.

If a breach occurs that requires notice under applicable law, we will notify regulators and affected users as required.

11. International Transfers

We and our providers may process information in countries other than where you live, including the United States and other locations where our vendors operate. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses or other lawful transfer mechanisms).

12. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, export, or restrict/object to certain processing of your personal information, and to withdraw consent. California residents may also have rights to know, delete, correct, and opt out of sale/sharing, and to limit use of sensitive personal information where applicable.

To exercise rights, email privacy@taptrade.site or use in-product controls (profile editing, consent preferences, account deletion). We may need to verify your identity before responding. You may also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

13. Children

The Service is for users 18 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or under 18 for use of the Service). If you believe a minor has provided us information, contact privacy@taptrade.site and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

14. Third-Party Links and Services

The Service may link to third-party sites or rely on third-party platforms (for example, map tiles or identity providers). Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies. We are not responsible for those practices.

15. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated Policy on this page and update the Effective Date. For material changes, we will provide additional notice as appropriate (for example, email or in-app notice). Continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy, except where applicable law requires a different method of consent.
